Drum Lesson 4: The hand that don't listen to instructions (Old)
If you are wondering if my instructor was late.. yes he is... but not 1 hour.. he was late for about 15 minutes... so you see the trend? yes its still very consistent.. just like the 3 bars of crochets, quaivers and semi-quaivers he tries to make us play in a cycle this lesson.. his lateness also comes in a cycle... :P
well anyway, this lesson like i mention is to make us do sub-division so we can get used to changing the motion of using the whole hand to using the wrist and fingers only... again it was disatreous... i was totally off beat... GF and me is suppose to help each other out.. she is suppose to give me the beats and i'm suppose to follow it with 4 beats of crochets, follow by 8 beats of quavers and lastly 16 beats of semi (and of course we swap the role)... and we are totally out of sync hahaa... not because we don't have mo qi but because we have too good mo qi liao... (will come back to tat later)
when we do sub-division just by mouthing without hitting on the drum we will all be correct... all the subdivision is nice and "sui"... but when we start to play on the drum its a totally different story.. the subdivision will go haywire... the hand will refuse to hear the instructions of the brain and start to do its on subdivision... and the result is of course disatreous.. (so bad tat the instructor buay tahan us and ask us to stop and take a break... and start talking about the "took" case with us... )
talking back about the mo qi thing.. wat happen is when GF is at the drum i'm hitting the beats for her... and guess wat? i will tend to compromise my speed to catch up or slow down with her.. so we have such good mo qi that it sounded right although it was wrong... of course i kena "say" by my instructor lah.. and he went into his endless nagging about how we should help each other out.. how i must try to tell her if GF is too fast or dragging instead of compromising to her... and he nags and nags and nags... go one super big round talk so much to emphasize the same point... until i almost fell asleep... sighz....
