Drum Lesson 7: Compromise, Notes and Co-ordination (Old)
Yesterday mark an important lesson in class as we are finally using our arms and legs together liao... but also more importantly we know how slow we are.. :'(
First part of the lesson is to learn to play with each other. We have to learn to compromise, so that we will be in tempo with each other... this we understand... when playing with a band of course there are times where you have to build up your 默契.. so now me and GF and really 發揮our默契liao....
Next on we learn to play the snare drum, hi-hat and base drum together. He taught as how to draw the notes for snare, base and hi-hat.. which is something new.. so at least now i noe how to look at 3 notes of the drum... which i hope will come in handy in October... :P
So we are suppose to play in 4/4, with beat 1 and 3 on the hi-hat and base and beat 2 and 4 on the snare... ermm.. of course in the beginning there was co-ordination problem.. tend to hit all three at the sametime.. but after a while we seem to catch it but I only manage to play for a short while.. after a while I will go all garbra again.... sighz... and worst i tend to speed up as a play.. i think its the same old problem... as i start to get used to it i start to play faster... duhz need to practice more with the metronome...
talking about the metronome, we are suppose to get our metronome and drumstick yesterday... BUT our dear instructor gave us the wrong model, in the end we din't buy the metronome, just in case we get the wrong things... even the drumstick he also told us the wrong model.. but we still got it as the common name he gave was correct... so next week i will be super broke cos i need to get the metronome and pay for my fees!!!! *looking down at the floor to see if there is money to pick since there is no money falling from the sky*
oh... and yesterday we stayed back to practice our alternate stroking on the newspaper.. poor guy on the cover page got hit by us for a thousand times.... but that is not the interesting part.. the interesting thing is that we saw the student 2 lessons after us. According to my instructor he started lesson 1 month after us.. but he is about the same stage as us... i think i have to go find a hole and bury myself inside.. wah liu... we are like 4 lessons behind pple? can you imagine... sighz... think i got to buck up man....
and yah we get to know our instructor while "ha-la-ing" with him... we got to know his age and birthday and his career and his 38-ness.... GF was quite shock of his age.. i was quite okie although it was still slighly below what i guess... but anyway that is not important... :P
