Drum Lesson 2: Rudiment and Accents
Had my second lesson last saturday... Quite interesting lesson cos i finally get to try a simple fill... hehehee... ^^v
Class started with Rudiments.. which is simple RLRL thingy and move on to accents... which is to place emphasis on certain notes... when i got it correct on the snare drum, he make me work on it with the bass drum... places with emphasis he makes me hit on the bass drum also... but i keep having problem in one of the set where the accent is on the left hand.. i tend to wanna use my right hand instead cos i can't alternate it... as in go left hand and right leg... chumz... anyway he says its okie cos tat is really not simple.. so nvm.... anyway important thing to note about the accents is that in order to make the accent have to let the stick start from a bigger angle... and how to compensate that angle by moving earlier to the require position so as to keep in tempo....
After a while I sort of get the first accent correct.. he ask me to try it on the tom rather than just on the snare... afterwhich he ask me to try do a fill-in with that... started off with the basic rock beat than on the 2nd bar do the fill-in and end with the crash... took sometime for me to get it correct.. but i only get to try it once after i got it correct.. cos he has move off to teach me something else... arghhh....
yah tat is a problem i find with him.. he teaches very fast... i din't get much chance to practice out after i manage to catch it.. just so to drive it in... i think because he thinks that we can practice that at home so he can teach more during class.. which has pros and cons lah.. cos like tat can learn more.. but i think still need to try a few more times to let it drive in lor... anyway maybe i can reflect to him next time....
anyway he set alot of homework for me!!! chumz no time to practice.. and worst is i dun have a drum pad... but i read from somewhere that a mousepad place on the table top will have tat effect... hmmm... why din't i think of it... great.. i shall go dig out my those ugly looking mousepad hidden somewhere and try it tonight.. hehehee... save $$....
