Drum Lesson 3: The Staff + Groove Rock

Lesson started with reading of the staff. Generally its how the notes look like and how each drum occupy which row of the staff. And of course how the notes look like. He also taught us how to read the clef. A funny thing that happen was that the clef shown on his notes was not the bass clef (the clef normally shown in drums score). He told me this is not the normal clef and he forgot what the clef shown is call. So i told him its the treble clef... hahaa... he is really not classically train, hence having problem with reading of the notes (unlike 38)... but like he mention drum is his only instruments so its understandable lah.. :P

Following suppose to be the playing of the different beats.. but i seriously nvr practice enuff for the more difficult ones.. so i told him cannot for the last few... he say okie than we shall play the last few... (-__-)"' but he was nice lah.. he gave me more time to practice than he will "test" me again on it next week... *shoo* So in the end its just the minum, chrochets, quaver, semi-quaver and triplets practice... which i sucks for quaver and triplets... keep going off tempo... and when i add in the bass drum for each chrochet i'm like totally off co-ordination... *sighz... god save me* i think i'm getting from bad to worst... when i tot i couldn't be more worst? i must be wrong..

Than we recap the rudiments with accent... this is still okie although i was off tempo again!!! recap of dynamics also.. this one was still okie cos i did practice on this... but again tempo was off cos most of the time i practice without the metronome while on the road... busy doing OT this week didn't have much time to practice *excuse*...

Than we move on to learn something new which is the High Hat Pattern... only manage to learn the "Groove Rock" and "Disco" combi... and the stupid thing is.. when i was learning the "Groove Rock" i keep playing the "Disco" combi which i haven't learn yet... but when i finally catch the "Groove Rock" i just can't get the "Disco" combi liao... sighz... and when he make me play with the music it was all disastrous.... keep missing the tempo... when i get the tempo i can't get the combi.. when i get the combi i can't get the tempo...

Generally you realise my problem?? I have a huge problem on TEMPO!!! Can anybody tell me how do i get my tempo right?? how to learn to play with the TEMPO???? when i subdivide and sing out i dun have much of a problem.. however when i start playing, my subdivision just go haywire.... and i will be off tempo... *sucks*
